One of Among Us’s strengths lies in its customizable game settings, allowing hosts to tailor the experience to their group’s preferences. Modifying parameters like player speed, task count, Impostor numbers, and discussion times can drastically alter gameplay, making rounds more challenging, fun, or balanced. While official servers use standard settings, understanding how to adjust custom settings and establish house rules can lead to unique and highly enjoyable Among Us sessions.
Tailoring the Chaos: Customizing Your Game
Make the rules your own for endless fun.
- Accessing Custom Settings: When you “Host Game,” you’ll find a “Game” tab in the lobby where you can adjust various settings.
- Key Customizable Settings:
- Impostors: (1, 2, or 3) Affects game balance. More Impostors means faster, more chaotic games.
- Player Speed: Makes movement faster or slower. Faster speed means quick escapes/chases.
- Crewmate Vision/Impostor Vision: Changes how far players can see. Low vision favors Impostors.
- Kill Cooldown: The time Impostors must wait between kills. Shorter cooldowns make it easier for Impostors.
- Discussion Time/Voting Time: How long players have to talk and vote. Shorter times favor Impostors (less time to gather evidence).
- Number of Emergency Meetings: Limits how many times the button can be pressed.
- Common Tasks/Long Tasks/Short Tasks: Adjusts the number of tasks Crewmates have. Fewer tasks can make it harder for Crewmates to win via task completion.
- Confirm Ejects: Toggles whether the game reveals if an ejected player was an Impostor or Crewmate. Turning this off makes the game much harder for Crewmates.
- House Rules (Verbal Agreements): Beyond in-game settings, many groups implement “house rules” for private games:
- No Impostor Chatting (After Death): Dead Impostors cannot influence living ones.
- No Ghost Chatting (After Death): Dead players (of any role) cannot use the ghost chat to give information to living players (unless specified).
- No Emergency Button Spamming: Only press the button if you have genuine, critical information.
- Specific Venting Rules: (e.g., Impostors can’t vent in front of ghosts, etc.).
- Balancing: Experiment to find settings that create the desired balance of challenge and fun for your group. Too many Impostors or too short a kill cooldown can make games too easy for Impostors.
Customizing your Among Us settings allows for endless variations, keeping the social deduction fun fresh and exciting for every group.
